“So…what do you do?”

It’s a question that is asked often enough.  It’s a good go-to during lulls in conversation.  As a result, you’d think I would have come up with a way to describe my job in a way that is both accurate and palatable to others in my 4.5 years doing it.

I haven’t.

The academic year goes by so quickly and I cover so much with students through one-on-one consultations and group learning opportunities that it’s almost impossible to catch it all in the traditional “elevator pitch.” That’s why I love the opportunity to capture my year in the form of a story.  It’s how I tend to explain my job anyway.  I find that answering the “what do you do?” question with a 6.5-minute story really helps in limiting the number of lulls in a conversation!
